This six-week beginner wheel throwing class is designed for students with little to no prior experience on the pottery wheel. Through weekly guided instruction, you’ll learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing including centering clay and pulling walls to shaping basic forms like cups, bowls, and small vessels.
Each class combines demonstrations, hands-on practice, and individualized feedback to help you build confidence and muscle memory at your own pace. You’ll also be introduced to basic trimming, surface finishing, and glazing techniques, gaining an understanding of the full ceramic process from wet clay to finished piece.
By the end of the session, students can expect to have several functional pieces and a solid foundation to continue working independently on the wheel. This class is supportive, process-focused, and ideal for anyone curious about learning ceramics in a studio environment.
This six-week beginner handbuilding class introduces students to the foundational techniques of building ceramics without the wheel. Designed for those with little to no prior experience, the course covers core handbuilding methods including pinch, coil, and slab construction.
Through weekly demonstrations and hands-on practice, students will learn how to form functional and sculptural pieces such as cups, bowls, plates, and small forms. Instruction will also include joining techniques, surface texture, basic carving, and an introduction to glazing and finishing.
By the end of the course, students can expect to complete several finished pieces and gain a strong understanding of handbuilding processes from raw clay through firing. This class emphasizes experimentation, craftsmanship, and developing confidence working with clay in a supportive studio setting.
